Autism Friend Teach Friendship and How to be a Friend
$3.50
These activities to teach friendship skills help those with special needs, including autism and an autism friend, learn the rules of friendship and what friends do and don’t do.
Description
The friendship monitor is a behavior management tool for autism friend support
Individuals with autism, and other trusting, kind people, often have difficulties navigating the complex world of friendship.
Some โfriendsโ will attempt to take advantage of these kind individuals.
To help with this problem, I created Rules of Friendship and the Friendship Monitor.
These visuals state actions that are okay for friends to do and another page that defines what actions are not okay for friends.
On both pages, each action is named, next the action is described, and then the final box details what an appropriate response would be.
The Autism Friend set includes
- Rules for Friendship: Okay (1 page)
- Rules for Friendship: Not Okay (1 page)
- Friendship Monitor with printable arrows (3 versions)
- How to Directions
The Rules of Friendship charts are great for classroom discussion, group therapy/counseling, and one-on-one role playing.
Rules of Friendship is useful for students in school and at home.
The friendship monitor supports those with autism and peers.
Simply print the autism friend visuals in black and white or color, or use as a digital copy on the computer or iPad.

I loved using this with some of my students who needed help with friendships. I was able to use this with several students with autism that needed to understand that there are degrees of being a friend. The different colors were so helpful to refer back to when talking about issues with friends on the playground also.
